I started out with another book by this author, but the series seem to share characters between them, so I decided to start with this series instead. I’m glad I did. Baylor and Gavin had very dramatic drama happening. It actually was kind of hard to put this book down.

We start the book with Gavin seeing a flyer for a public appearance by an author who happens to be the girl who broke his heart. Her name is Baylor and he fell in love with her in college. The story switches to a flashback to show us how they fell for each other and how she broke his heart. When we get back to the present, we see the story isn’t as simple as it seems. Because apparently Gavin broke Baylor’s soul.

They find out pretty quickly what caused their split. But it’s been 8 years and Baylor wonders if they can love the people they’ve become. There’s a lot at stake, but it could all be too late.

Overall, I liked this story. Baylor and Gavin were dealt a terrible hand, but they made the most of it. Watching them fall in love was fun. It’s nice that they could get that back.

This one was very dark. Strangely beautiful. And also just plain strange.

This is book 2 in the Mitchell Sisters series. In book 1 we meet Skylar as 16 year old visiting her older sister Baylor at college. Based on what we saw happen to Baylor in her book, Skylar understandably has zero belief in love. Instead, she had self destructive drunken one night stands that even she’s tired of. She decides to do something that will keep her from men, keep her from booze, and will be selfless. Somehow she ends up deciding to become a surrogate for a couple who’s been rejected by the adoption agencies. Enter Griffin and Erin. Despite her immediate attraction to Griffin, Skylar decides to be the surrogate.

This is where things start to get strange. But beautiful. And weird. And depressing. It was a lot going on, but somehow had a happy-ish ending. Be prepared for raised eyebrows and tears with this one.
