Summary:
This story is about a girl named Shannon O'Shea who is Irish and has long, flowing, braided, beautiful copper (as the book called it) hair. Her hair apparently always stayed braided until the fall and hay got stuck in her hair. The sprites particularly the queen named Bernice seemed jealous at the way the had looked in her hair so the other sprites began to upbraided it. As they upbraided it the sprites found many things in her hair. They found items such as red potatoes from a feast that they had and even a small boat. They also found a volcano and a small Island named Atlantis. The book said it was 17 miles of hair and it took dozens of sprites to re-braid it.

Personal Reaction:
This is a nice book that could be used to help with a child who had difficulty getting their hair done. I really enjoyed the tone of the book. It has a no-stop rhyme to it and has an awesome flow.

Classroom extension:
1. This could be a great scavenger hunt book for the little ones I think. Questions could be asked can you find the thimble.
2. Personal Hygiene with a laugh for children having issues getting their hair done.
3. Ireland or Irish theme such as for multicultural

This book is about a sprite who finds a piece of hay in the hair of a young girl. Then, they sprites go to unbraid the hair of Shannon O'Shea to see what else they could find in the hair of this girl. It goes through the unveiling of the objects in the hair.

I like this book, it uses a lot of poetry aspects such as rhyming and alliteration throughout the book. It has bright and colorful illustrations that are detailed and busy. It would be fun for a child to look through.

I think I could use this book to show how to rhyme and start poetry. It would be good to use for examples of how to write poems and start a unit on that in the elementary levels. I think it could lead to a fun assignment of poems.… (mais)
