I've always wondered how distance and exile affect art, whether they create identities moulded by discountinuity. I wonder if it stops artists from critiquing the general culture of the adopted country. I assume that referencing Western contemporary forms is too narrow an interpretation, but also question how much others have to learn, assume and allow for new cultures. "Photographica Australis" asks many of these questions and suggests some possible answers.'
