This is not the end, but I can see it from here por Thomas Head
Fairly good until about 80% in, when weird things begin happening.

Editing/proofing gets thrown out of the window.

The expected villains are switched for others with little warning and no apparent relationship between the two.

Almost the whole cast is slain, and the overall threat is apparently resolved despite the cover and title page hinting that this is apparently #1 of a series.
