I would probably recommend Tales for Delicious Girls as a book to read when you are feeling under the weather. Several of the stories made me smile and laugh at how predictable some of the male archetypes were. Barbara Knobova definitely entertains and provides excellent food for thought for all women of all ages. While she mainly focuses on relationships, she also spends time on the perception of age, beauty (e.g. breasts...or lack thereof), and female rivalry. Tales for Delicious Girls celebrates the existence of women and encourages the pursuit of healthy relationships as well as the love for oneself, no matter how bad things get.

If you enjoyed my little red book, then this is right up the same alley of great humor and seriousness in regards to female issues.

I had high hopes for this book, and I won’t say that I was disappointed, but it wasn’t entirely what I thought it would be. And honestly, I’m not sure what I thought it would be either. What I do think, however, is that the message of the book is a good one, and for that in itself, I encourage people to read it.

My rating may not quite be fair, since I think it is based largely on me not being the target audience for the book. It was cute, funny and had entertaining stories. If it had been a straight memoir, I would have enjoyed it immensely.Instead, she's telling these as inspirational stories about dealing with dating and men. There are a few chapters that deal with female friendship and with loving yourself, but the primary focus is the ins and outs of new relationships. I've never lived the life she describes, and neither have any of my friends.I'm still stinging from one of the few references to a life like mine. It was in a chapter about men who are attracted to smart, intelligent, educated, independent women, but then are intimidated by those qualities; who don't want an equal partnership. She refers to a man who dumps the wonderful woman described above, and marries a homemaker. He finds her boring, and has an affair with another smart, intelligent, educated, independent woman. What's a smart, intelligent, educated, independent mom at home (like me) to take from this?I'll pass my copy on to a single friend. I think she'll really enjoy it. I don't think I'll need to pick it up again.… (mais)

If you are a women of official dating age (in other words, 16 and up) you can officially become a Delicious Girl. Don't think upon seeing the word "relationship" in the book's description that this is one of the many relationship how-to books that crowd the shelves today. It's not. Author Barbora Knobova has taken true life stories, condensed them into very short story format (most tales log in around 2 pages) and shared them with readers.

Ms. Knobova's writing style is casual, comfortable and fun. She lays it all on the table and while reading her book, I could imagine having a conversation with her about these same experiences over coffee. Never does she sound condescending or preachy - - another bonus. Instead, she is merely one girlfriend shares woes, joys and insight with another.

The best aspect of the book, in my opinion, is the positive reinforcement it gives out. Too often women are encouraged to find that soul mate, or your life isn't complete; to play games in order to get that ring on your finger; to settle and give away aspects of yourself in order to become part of a couple. No such punches are pulled in Tales for Delicious Girls. Ms. Knobova encourages women to be their own person, to be their own best friend and to listen and trust that voice inside you - - if that voice says JB is never going to be what you want him to be, dump him! Ms. Knobova tells us that we deserve the very best that life has to offer. What a wonderful, insightful message to send out to not only teen girls just wading into the dating pool and beginning life, but to women of all ages.

Tales for Delicious Girls was a relatively quick and easy read. As mentioned above, most of the tales are relatively short and incredibly humorous. I had a most enjoyable evening shared with Ms. Knobova and her stories, a few of which allowed me to remember my own earlier mistakes and either shake my head or chuckle.

I would recommend this book to all my girlfriends and encourage them to believe in themselves first and foremost, love themselves and become a Delicious Girl!
