A Boy Off the Bank por Geoffrey Lewis
A story of the cares of children and the sometime violent upbringing. In a story woven against the backdrop of the English canals and the values of the old boating families. Geoffrey Lewis gives a tale of twists and turns.
Strangers left me wanting a bit stronger storyline - I think Geoffrey Lewis has penned a good intriguing story with a backdrop of the English canal system. Not so much a who-dun-it, more of a when will they get their comeuppance.
Written in the same sort of genre as Arthur Ransoms Swallows and Amazons. This book will appeal to the younger as well as the older reader. The storyline is set on the canals rather than within Ransom's Lakeland or Norfolk broads region. A story of two boys both hailing from a time towards the end of the boatee's canal lifestyle. One from the cut and the other from a town of the 1950's. The story twists and turns around their cultural, lifestyle and family differences. When a school friendship is drawn together from playground adversity. Set in the days before "Political Correctness" the book also captures another time that like canal life has been and gone. A good follow on to the first book. This trilogy isn't deep reading, but full of details about canal life during and just after WWII. Suitable for young readers. (The main characters of this book are 10, 13 and 17.)
