Artists' Publications: The Belgian Contribution por Johan Pas
Arising from a research project with the Royal Academy of Arts Antwerp, this book documents the history of books and magazines by Belgian artists and art publishers from the 1950s to today. Featured artists include Henry van de Velde, René Magritte, Pol Bury, Marcel Broodthaers, E.L.T. Mesens and Christian Dotremont.
This publication consists of two volumes (Multiple & Readings).
Published on the occasion of the exhibition ‘Multiple / Readings. 51 artists' books,’ at the Nottebohmzaal at the Erfgoedbibliotheek Hendrik Conscience in Antwerp, from October 3 to April 2004, 2011, and at the Municipal Public Library in Harelbeke, from April 7 to August 27, 2011.
Curator and author is Johan Pas. The books are all from the collection of the author.
Johan Pas (b. 1963), professor, author and curator, shares in the exhibition his more than twenty years old passion for art books: "'Artists' books are more than any other artistic medium able to infiltrate into the cultural network. They are stubborn obstacles in time, simultaneously they spread out around the world, slowly but surely." Johan Pas selected for each year a title from his collection: 'This one title a year is a self-imposed restriction to keep the choice sharp and the story bright.' The story begins with Yves Klein and ends (for now) with Vaast Colson and Dennis Tyfus. In the book, Multiple/Readings, all exhibited books are extensively discussed and illustrated.… (mais)

Standaardwerk over het unieke oeuvre van Roobjee, in de vorm van een abecedarium. Nadruk op het plastische werk, maar het literaire komt eveneens aan bod. Knappe vormgeving van Dooreman, als vanouds. Mooi tijdsbeeld, brede historische kadering.
