Summary: This book is about a student in elementary school worrying about what he is going to bring for the 100th day of school. He is the only one out of all of his friends that does not know what he is going to bring. He finally decides to bring 100 ants to school. The ants escape, but he is able to round all 100 up with the help of his classmates.

Personal Reaction: I really liked this book. It had a lot of pictures in it that kids would like to see. It is a book that would need to be read by someone with a lot of emotion, because there are plenty of exclamation marks in it.

Classroom Extensions: 1) This would be an excellent book for the teacher to read on the 100th day of school. 2) It provides a good idea for teachers to use to implement a class project on the 100th day of school. It would be a fun idea to have the children bring 100 things to school on the 100th day.

Summary: Rick doesn’t want to go to summer camp; his mom talks him into going. When he got to camp he was lonely, Consoler Kim helped Rick by showing him the lake and helping him swim. At lunch Rick was sad again so Kim talks to him at lunch and they become friends. Rick has a great week and can’t wait to go back next year.

Personal Reaction: I enjoyed how this boy is able to make a new friend even though he doesn’t want to talk with anyone. I am somewhat of an introvert myself, so I can relate.

Classroom Extensions: (1) Read this book at the beginning of the year, after reading it let the children write about their summer experience. (2) Use this book to introduce new words, such as vocabulary or spelling words.
