The inaugural entry in the Carlo Monterossi series, this book takes you to Milan, where the even the hired killers live by a code when they're hunting a bad guy.

Carlo Monterossi is dragged into a serial killing spree by accident, then sets out with his associates to find the killer. But he's unaware that two gypsies are looking for the same killer for a different reason, even as two hired guns are hunting the same man for something else.

The book alternates between a witty tone and some truly dramatic passages, such as the one in which one of the gypsies discusses the history of migration and persecution his people have endured. At other times, the humor shines through, especially in its description of a reality TV show called "Crazy Love".

Highly recommended for Italian students who want a romp with vivid characters and a true sense of place.

L'idea avrebbe potuto essere buona ma è stata sviluppata malamente e con pressapochismo. Quello che l'A. vorrebbe fare passare come ironia è solo una montagna di luoghi comuni.

Attraverso inutili divagazioni l'A. allunga il romanzo ma interrompe la tensione che ogni noir che si rispetta dovrebbe far insorgere nel lettore. In compenso fa poco ricorso ai congiuntivi.

Gradevole, ma banalotto. L storia è una scusa per ambientare una storia d'amore alla Robin Hood nella Milano di Expo. Allora si poteva evitare di far morire inutilmente una povera vittima se il libro si concentra sull'omicidio per il 10% e non più.
