This book is a great way to break the ice on some serious issues every kid needs to know. The book is for the parents of 4-8 year olds and is broken down into several sections (at home, at play, out & about, first aid). There is also a section for kids activities that are just for fun and Pages for Parents (lists, checklists, and how-to information). The book has a table of contents and index. Very useful. To make things fun I am reviewing a topic every day with my 5 year old daughter. I am skipping around to the topic that best fits the day. I put a sticker on the page we have went over and when we have gone over all topics I will do a review with her.

Linda Schwartz has written numerous books for youngsters, many of them in the self-help genre. She frequently partners with Sherri M. Butterfield as her editor and Beverly Armstrong to provide clear and bold illustrations. Source: Google search. "This book is a must for parents and teachers who want to prepare children for the unexpected, puzzling, and frightening situations that may arise when they are at home alone, at school, or out on their own." Source: Books back cover. It covers everything from being locked out of the house to how to handle the peer pressure of one of your friends offering you a cigarette. In addition to illustrations throughout the book, pictures and diagrams are provided for some first aid situations and household emergencies. The glossary is very helpful and the book is well indexed.
