Although this book is thoroughly researched and timely, there are some serious downsides. Like, don't start a drinking game where you take a drink every time you find a grammatical error or typo; you'll be drunk by the end of the first chapter. There is at least one cringe-worthy error every page. And ditto for every time the author uses six words when two will suffice. The author is a sloppy writer, and is hampered by an equally sloppy editor. In addition, he tends to be less well researched on Biblical information, since he attributes a quote of Jesus's to G. W. Bush, and there are several other places where he appears to be unaware that militant Jesus is present in the New Testament outside of The Revelation. In spite of that, it is interesting and compelling, and a bit frightening, especially for those of us who lived within this world closely enough to realize he is not making it up.… (mais)

An exposé of the movement behind one of the largest publishing successes in the industry, Standaert investigates primarily the politics that drive LaHaye and the Left Behind empire. He clearly shows his research and sources, having first-hand experience with such people. To gain a better understanding of premillennial theology and its importance vis-à-vis American politics is to read this book. In order to improve, perhaps a discussion in greater detail of the theology and how it links with the politics could have been added.… (mais)
