In short it didn’t work for me, but interesting material with a psychological angle behind it.

I knew a fair bit about schema and schema therapy but I hadn't actually read this foundational book.

Schema therapy is a great advance on CBT. I've tried CBT at times throughout my life, but I got nowhere until Jeffrey Young's iteration made it into an actual therapy.

I liked it. It did have me marveling that anyone in this world is sane. So many problems, resulting from both nature and nurture, it's amazing how human beings function. It also provides a sturdy foundation for upcoming generational problems that the Western culture will face as a result of our living style.

Young and his 18 Schemas: Definitely Worth knowing to fill in gaps in knowledge.
Sometimes, We might not be aware of them. What we cannot define or understand, we are blinded.

Young identified 18 schemas:

Abandonment (instability),

Mistrust‐Abuse,

Emotional Deprivation,

Defectiveness‐Shame,

Social Isolation (alienation),

Dependence Incompetence,

Vulnerability to Harm or Illness,

Enmeshment (undeveloped self),

Failure (to achieve),

Entitlement Grandiosity,

Insufficient Self‐control (or self‐discipline),

Subjugation,

Self‐ Sacrifice,

Approval Seeking (recognition seeking),

Negativity Pessimism,

Emotional Inhibition,

Unrelenting Standards (hyper‐criticalness), and Punitiveness

Maladaptive schemas hinder people from recognizing, experiencing, and fulfilling their own needs.
