I have only read one The Thirty-nine Steps and although I found it somewhat purile, but in a nice way, I'm curious to go on and read the others to see if they are cut from the same cloth or if they get darker, more complex.
The Thirty-nine Steps was known as a shocker to Buchan: anything that is within the realms of possible. Yes I did find many unlikely coincidences!! But that is the writer's prerogative.
