If you haven't read this Sir Walter Scott novel, it might just be worth your while if you are looking for a darned good story. Guy Mannering was on my radar for a while but took me some time to get the time to pick it up and read it. I think it is very good. It has a great blend of characters that are sure to grate upon one another and make for great fiction.

Although the novel doesn't have the fugitive type figure that are so brilliantly depicted in many of Scott's novels like Bride of Lammermoor, Waverley and Rob Roy, it does have that element of intrigue and building tension throughout that means for a piping hot ending.

I'm not sure how well this rates amongst Scott's novels generally, in terms of how it has been received over the years, but it a very decent earlier book in his canon.
