On civil disobedience

So the recent goings-on in Keene with the 4:20 marijuana protests have got me thinking about the necessity of discipline while engaging in civil disobedience. The raucous minority of protestors (probably some college kids, not free staters) kind of stand out and I worry this will unjustly color the movement. I own The Search for a Nonviolent Future and Nonviolence: The History of a Dangerous Idea. I've barely cracked the first one and have yet to start the second one. At the end of the day, you can't really control who shows up for your event, but this kind of problem must have been encountered before in history and maybe this is a good place to find and share some info towards that end.
