I'm generally unimpressed by Lebbon's work and this is no exception. As an author most noted for novelizations, this shouldn't surprise you.

A post-apocalyptic England where even the zombies have largely run out due to a shortage of live food (Why doesn't this ever occur to anyone else when they read about the zombie apocalypse?). The world is dominated by spirits, wraiths, and were-beings (Why haven't the were-beings likewise died out for lack of fresh fodder?).

We'll set these plot holes aside and try to get to the real meat of the matter, the story is so slight it blessedly is only 84 pages. It's not terrible, just totally forgettable.

Apparently this is the third installment in the "Apocalypse Trilogy" but hating series novels in general, I'm not going back for the previous two titles. Why what are essentially three short stories don't appear in a single volume is curious. No doubt in an effort to separate you from more of your hard earned lucre there will be a "collected" edition in the future.

The book is beautifully produced by PS Publishing with a striking cover and dust jacket. It's just a shame the contents isn't up to the wrapper. ( )
