I recently watched this series and sort of liked the weird and dark tone it had for a children's show. This volume contains a couple of stories that seem like deservedly rejected episodes and a couple of stories that fill in some backstory for a few of the side characters. Not bad, but not as good as the show.

I'd probably stop here if I didn't already have several more volumes on hand from the library, so . . . onward! ( )

Beautiful artwork in this book but I really had a hard time following what was going on. I felt it was bogged down with so much chattery inane dialogue and exposition and this might the be tone of television cartoon but this is squarely in the 'not for me' camp. As well, my confusion makes sense after discovering that this isn't really a complete story - it fills in the gaps of the cartoon series so pretty much if you haven't seen the show, you're going to be equally confused. Excellent collection, written by the show’s creator. Chronicles adventures that happen in-between the episodes of the show itself. I think a comic mini-series suits these stories very well. They could’ve made solid episodes with a bit more meat to them. That’s not to down-play their quality, just to say they are more “slight” than the show. ( )

Enter the Unknown again in this graphic novel featuring Wirt, Greg, Beatrice, and other beings from the TV series Over the Garden Wall. This book features more snippet-like adventures, which clearly fit into places in between episodes of the show (e.g., one of these stories ends with the gang hidden in the back of a wagon, which is exactly where one episode of the show starts; another story ends with a mention of going to see "Uncle" Endicott, which hows another TV episode begins). Because of that, this book is clearly designed for an audience who has already watched the show, and would probably be difficult to navigate for those who have not done so. I found it clever, delightful, and very much in the same style of the show, so I would recommend this book for those who are fans of the series. A fun addition in the back matter is the inclusion of sheet music for songs from this graphic novel and from the show. ( )
