I had already read the book before listening to the audiobook of it and I was still as enthralled listening to it as I was reading it.
This is by far her best book and there is something soothing and relaxing listening to someone read to you.
It took me back to when I was a lot younger and my Nan would read to me.
This was my first audiobook that I read/listened to so I was a bit hesitant to begin with but I don’t know if it was because the narration was so good on top of it already being a book that I loved but it not has me hooked on audiobooks!
I’ve even joined audible as I liked the sensation of being read too. Especially in bed at night, being read to sleep!
The story is just incredible with a massive, massive twist that almost gave me whiplash and coupled together with it being read to you so well, this is a must, especially if like me you’ve never dabbled with audiobooks as this is one that won’t fail to have you hooked! ( )

This was my first book by Fiona Cummins and what a twisty little treat it was! We are thrust into a dark story of cruel parents, horrifically abused children, public personas and the ultimate revenge. The shifts in time were brilliantly done. I loved the pacing of the story with the motives behind everyone's actions unfolding in a way that really built up tension. It is so well crafted with shocking truth bombs that force you to rethink your understanding of what has happened again and again. Not an easy read but definitely worth it. I'm off to read another book by this amazing author!

CW: stabbing, bloody crime scene, children abused verbally, physically and emotionally, food deprivation ( )

Sara and Shannon are sisters who love each other dearly. And thank god for that because their parents are two awful, wicked, and disturbed people.
Brinley is the girls next door neighbour and their good friend. They spend a lot of time together and the three of them find solace in each other’s company.
Late one night, the girls have had enough of their parents abuse, and one of them stabs them to death with a pair of scissors. Brinley happens to bear witness of this and thus their lives are forever marked and defined.
Twenty years later, details start to emerge through an interview one of the sisters decides to give.
What follows is a page turning race to the end to find out what really happened that fateful night.
This is one heartbreaking, infuriating, sad and redeeming book that made my hair stand on end almost all the time it took me to read it. Do not miss it! ( )

The little Carter sisters, Sara and Shannon, live in a beautiful house on the hill. To the outside world, their childhood is perfect. Then one day, ten-year-old Sara does something unforgivable.

Sara after facing the consequences for her actions starts a new life under a new name, Catherine, but fails to mention her past to her husband and daughter.

On the anniversary of the trial, when Shannon gives an interview with a request to reach out to Sara, both the sisters are forced to confront what really happened for the first time – with devastating consequences for them both.

This book was amazing right from start to finish. I was immediately attracted to the book due the cover as well as it's premise and it did not disappoint.

The way this plot has been written is so good. It covers the life of the sisters as kids- being constantly abused both physically and emotionally by their parents and the incidents that lead to the night of the murder.

Brinley, their neighbour and best friend during childhood, now a journalist is another important character in this story. Being forced to cover the story on the anniversary of the trial, she recalls her own sorrow of that night, when her mother succumbed to death due to cancer. Also, Brinley has another secret, which she hasn't told anyone yet and which forced her to lie.

The twists in the book were completely unexpected and it keeps you hooked on right till the end.

The only bit in the book that I didn't quite understand was the sub plot involving the politician Geoffrey Heathcote I couldn't figure out the relevance of that to the overall plot.

Overall, such a twisted thriller that is addictive. Highly recommended.

Thank You to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for this ARC!! ( )
