In this irresistible historical romance debut, a seasoned spy sets out to rescue the childhood friend he once loved from a reputation-destroying rumor--only to discover that she is actually the source. After enduring five interminable seasons, Lottie Carlisle has had enough of shallow London society, her boring little life, and her uncle Alfred's meddling. When he demands she accept a proposal by the end of next season or else he will choose a husband for her, she devises a plan: create a scandal shocking enough to make her unmarriageable and spend her spinsterhood far enough away in the countryside where no one will ever recognize her. Alec Gresham hasn't seen Lottie since he left his childhood friend without a word five years ago. So he's not surprised to find her furious when he appears on her doorstep. Especially bearing the news he brings: her uncle is dying, her blasted reputation is still intact, and Lottie must return home. As they make the journey back to her family estate, it becomes increasingly clear that the last five years hasn't erased their history, nor their explosive chemistry. Can Lottie look past her old heartache and trust Alec, or will his secrets doom their relationship once again?… (mais)

THE REVIEW
Charlotte Elizabeth Carlisle is out to ruin her reputation do she runs away from home hoping that will create such a scandal that her Uncle won’t be able to find anyone to marry her!

Alec Gresham was in love with Lottie, but, when he spoke to her Uncle, he was denied courting her and decided it would be best to leave.

It broke Lottie's heart when Alex left, but they both moved forward until Alec showed up in Italy to bring Lottie back to London. Along their journey, they start to learn more about their pasts, their forced separation and the depth of their feelings for each other. There is adventure, jealousy, romance, steam and a gallant rescue! I really don’t enjoy the miscommunication trope or rather the NO communication trope, but once I got past that frustration, Lottie and Alec were such a sweet couple. And while those tropes irritate me, childhood sweethearts is one of my favorites!!

Lottie, an orphan raised by her uncle, Sir Alfred, cannot seem to find a love much. So, when her uncle declares that she will marry this season, she uses her trip to Italy to fake her ruination and to run away. However, her idyllic time in the Italian countryside is disturbed with the return of Alec Gresham, her childhood companion.

Like Lottie, he too was orphaned and grew up in Sir Alfred's care. While the two had been close, after Lottie's come out, Alec had requested to court her only to be denied by Sir Alfred based on his lineage and lack of prospects. Instead, Sir Alfred wants Alec to go into service for the Crown as a spy. Alec, seeing no alternative finds himself in a career that he hates but excels at. So, when Sir Alfred falls ill and demands that Alec find Lottie and return her home, he immediately sets out to find her.

Upon his arrival, Alec meets a chilly reception from Lottie but the affection and passion between the two remains. But, with Sir Alfred ill and a potential mole in the Crown's service, can the two survive long enough to persuade their guardian and mentor that their love is real?

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. A Rogue To Remember is the first book in Emily Sullivan’s exciting new series League of Scoundrels. Lottie Carlisle has had enough, she’s endured five excruciating seasons and has decided that the only way to avoid being forced into marriage by her Uncle Alfred is to create a scandal so enormous, he will have no choice but to accept her decision to remain unmarried. Agent of the Crown Alec Gresham has been sent to retrieve Lottie with the hopes of saving her from the scandal she planned to create. She was his childhood friend and first love but her Uncle his guardian and mentor refused to consider his suit and this will be the first time they have seen each other in five years. I enjoyed this second chance at love very much and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Steam Level: Medium.
