You didn't know who to trust, whose story to believe and who would become the victims in the end. The opening scene leaves you hanging through the entire novel while getting pieces of clues and glimpses of the past that brought everyone to this moment in time. Tessa and Sylvia have been friends for a long time, and through a lot but when Tessa continues to bring up the past and starts to act a little bizarre in her requests, Sylvie starts to wonder what her motive is and if she really knew her friend at all. Time is of the essence, but dredging up the past cannot fix what happened and will it change the perception of what really happened that night? Thank you to Source Books for the free novel. I just finished another book with this exact same twist, so as I was reading it, this twist was always in the back of my mind. Sylvie is a barrister in London and up for a position in the Court. Her boyfriend, Gareth, a caterer, lives in Scotland, where Sylvie and her friend, Tess, were raised. Tess is diagnosed with a fatal disease and asks Sylvie to tell Tess's estranged husband, Marcus. She also wants Sylvie to participate in a renewal of vows ceremony, and also to find a woman that Tess feels they wronged. Sylvie is apprehensive about this. Meanwhile there is a story of 2 bodies found impaled on a railing after a NYE party. These are parallel stories. Sylvia is working her way up to being a Judge. She has worked hard and made all the correct political manipulations. She has even found her a new man. Her life is finally moving forward. But, then her life goes off the rails. She is accused of something she did not do and all her aspirations and dreams come crashing down! I had a difficult time connecting to the characters in this one. It took a while for me to really get into this story. But, I am glad I hung in there. There is a big twist to this tale. I did kind of figure it out, but not before I guessed wrong first. Need a murder mystery with a fabulous setting and a twisty ending you will not forget…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today! I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
It's New Year's Eve and the stage is set for a lavish party in one of Edinburgh's best postcodes. It's a moment for old friends to set the past to rights-and move on. The night sky is alive with fireworks and the champagne is flowing. But the celebration fails to materialize. Because someone at this party is going to die tonight. Midnight approaches and the countdown begins-but it seems one of the guests doesn't want a resolution. They want revenge. From the acclaimed author of Blood Orange, comes a thriller of a party spiraling into murder, when one guest's plan to right old wrongs ends in blood, told with Tyce's signature dark and propulsive twists. Given all those things, I wanted to love this book so much and I read it to the very end hoping that it would be an exciting. However, the story was boring and very predictable.
Plus it didn’t keep my attention as it took me longer than normal to read this type of book.
If you are newer to the genre and enjoy the above elements in a story, give this one a go. For me though, it was a miss. 2.5 stars
Many thanks for my arc for my honest opinion. ( )
