It was a little long, but the concept of this book was something I'd never read before and kept me entertained the whole book. ( ) No summary or spoilers: Definite 4 for creativity! Who can resist a hook that every a woman's husband goes into their attic, a different husband comes back down? It's Sliding Doors meets Groundhog Day. I hope the author got a contract immediately based on the pitch alone--it was that fascinating an idea. 3 for execution. It was cute, but ultimately, I didn't think it paid off its promise. The setup is solid and the ending was...ok. The middle seemed interminable. The woman sweeps through husbands - some she tries out for awhile, some she loses to the attic prematurely, others are barely there - instantly returned. There are some interesting points to be made (e.g., each of the husbands was a person she chose to love and who chose her back; relationships take time and work to develop; the people in them are constantly transforming, never static, etc.). She grasps the rules of the attic very quickly, but understanding what that means for her life is a different story altogether--if anything, she appears to wind down rather than wise up. IMO, would have been far more powerful as a short story, but still unique and worth a read. I didn't love this, but there was a lot I appreciated about it. The character/story arc wasn't as predictable as I was expecting and it had me pondering what modern dating is doing to us as a society. Parts of the book just felt icky and I never really liked the protagonist, but it was a cool premise to explore. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

When Lauren returns home to her flat in London late one night, she is greeted at the door by her husband, Michael. There's only one problem--she's not married. She's never seen this man before in her life. But according to her friends, her much-improved decor, and the photos on her phone, they've been together for years. As Lauren tries to puzzle out how she could be married to someone she can't remember meeting, Michael goes to the attic to change a lightbulb and abruptly disappears. In his place, a new man emerges, and a new, slightly altered life re-forms around her. Realizing that her attic is creating an infinite supply of husbands, Lauren confronts the question: If swapping lives is as easy as changing a lightbulb, how do you know you've taken the right path? When do you stop trying to do better and start actually living? Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
