Like Handsprings, Autumnblings was written by Douglas Florian. They are very similar. While Handsprings focuses on springtime, these poems focus on autumn and colder weather. There are concrete and list poems. There are also several free verse poems. Florian used paintings again in this book. The paintings have the same affect on the poems as they do in his other works. This book is about Autumn and it is very well written poems. The illustrations are so cute and well done, plus they go very well with the poem. I really enjoyed reading the poem titled "What I Love About Autumn"

this is a great book to read to a class about their like and dislike about the autumn and different holidays traditions. Its a variety of poems in one book with cute illustrations. good for ages 4-7 ( )

Hastily read, most of the poems and illustrations might be dismissed as simplistic and simply silly; but closer examination and consideration reveal depth and cleverness. My appreciation for the works has increased after several attentive revisits. Children should enjoy the childlike nature of the watercolors, and if an adult reader discusses the forms and meanings of the wordplay, children will find favorites among the poetry selections. ( )
