Plot device gets takes a bit of getting used to but by the end it makes complete sense and you are given a wonderful insight into the protagonist's malady. Great read. ( )

Before I begin, I won this from a Goodreads free-giveaway contest. It got mailed to me from the author (Craig Larsen) and was signed with this in the front: "Tom, Hope you enjoy the read! Craig"
I'm putting this up front because, basically, I wouldn't feel comfortable giving this book a bad review if it sucked. Fortunately, for me, it doesn't.

It was quite good! To call this the best book I've won from Goodreads isn't saying much and does the book a disservice. It's better than that.

The murder mystery plot isn't my favorite. There are more than a few murder books that I just can NOT get into at all. And while there are parts that I felt were predictable, the book was still a good read and intriguing and interesting.

I would recommend it only to murder book fans, but recommend it I would. ( )

This book was really shockingly good! You didn't see it coming till it smacked you in the face! Kept you on the edge till the end! ( )

The book kicks off with a murder, the protagonist, Nick witnesses his brother Sam getting murdered, but his memory is hazy. As the book goes on it jumps backwards and forwards a lot, this is confusing at first but it helps you to understand how Nick is feeling, because he keeps having these blackouts and flashbacks.

The author has done a great job of building up suspense and kept me wondering what was going on, but by about 200 pages in I had a pretty good idea of what the outcome was going to be. Once I got towards the end of the book it was obvious that my suspicions were right, but there was still one big surprise that I hadn’t expected.

I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it for other fans of mystery/thrillers. ( )

Having received this book as a Good Reads give away I really tried to like it but I'm afraid the combination of violence and lack of character depth meant I did not finish it. I just could not engage with the character of Nick (with all his hallucinations and flashbacks) at all and the plot verged more twoards horror than I like. However I've given it to a friend who I think will enjoy it more. It just wasn't my cup of tea. ( )
