A cute story about a young boy who is perplexed when the moon disappears. He follows a snail through his closet to the moon to try and find a missing ball. The snail who is afraid of many things is encourages by Willoughby to face his fears. Books that use silver ink are instantly attractive to me, the story was satisfying if not a bit surreal and I'm sure teachers will love incorporating this book into units on the moon and space. ( )

He finds the answer in his closet, of all places, opening the door onto a stunning moonscape, where he befriends a luminescent snail, and helps his new friend search for his lost silver ball...

Like its predecessor, Willoughby & The Moon presents a visually stunning picture-book experience, with artwork done in black & white with metallic silver accents. The effect is magical, suggesting the cold enchantment of the moon, and parallels the gold accents used in the previous book about Willoughby, which suggested the warmth of the lion. The text itself offers an engaging adventure story, as well as a reassurance tale, as Willoughby assures his snail friend that there is nothing to fear, during the course of their search, and then is assured in his turn, when he himself is frightened. Recommended to anyone who read and enjoyed the first book, as well as to those looking for more fantastical picture-books about the moon. ( )

The illustrations and colors used in these books are amazing and make it super fun to read. Willoughby is a brave soul as he travels to space to find out what happened to the moon.

I liked " Willoughby and the Moon" by Greg Foley. The Ilustrations in this book are mixed media including actual moon maps, hand drawings, and computer generated pictures. I like the fact that the illustrations are black, white and sliver they emphasize the fact that Willoughby is imagining himself on the moon. They also cleverly accentuated the parts of the book where the author is describing Willoughby's fear of the dark as he does when he describes his hesitance to follow the snail into the cave. I liked that the book focuses on Willoughby's bravery as he encounters new adventures like the lunar buggy and spaceship but show that he still has this real fear of the darkness which he conquers through the snails help. The theme of this book is overcoming fear and I like the way the author reinforced this idea through the story of Willoughby's journey. ( )

This book was very interesting. I loved the all-black pages to signify the darkness of Willoughby's room. His imagination runs wild as he runs around on the moon playing ball with giant snails. This is a great book for early readers to provoke imagination. I will buy a copy and read to my son because I think it's also a great beditme story and would help a young child not feel alone or afraid in the dark.
