This is a Great Depression era book about geography for secondary or home schooled children. There is a brief quiz in the back. It feels like a novel and contains fictional, albeit harmless and entertaining, embellishments to grip young minds. The work really shines in its ability to guide the reader-- as it were, student-- through the various accounts of explorers and discoverers, from ancient Greece to the nineteenth century. However, given the decade in which this book was written, its target audience, and the sheer magnitude of the subject and our history, you should expect a meager, antiseptic experience (no pillaging, slaughter, etc.). If you are new to the subject, you will enjoy the book; just use it as your base for further exploration of modern works.… (mais)
