A potent," as well as "a demanding and distinctive interpretation of American history." The book covers modern subjects like education, political correctness, press power, politics of racism, and the historical impact of women. As a fervent believer in the history and future of the American people, Johnson holds unique, insightful, and inspiring opinions.

Fascinating read. This was one of the first biographies that I read. Churchill was certainly one of the influential persons of 20th century. I consider the most influential person to be Gandhi but may be when I read more biographies my perspective might change. A lot of detail has been skimmed over in this biography as it is quite short considering the impact Churchill had on our existence. The book seemed rushed over towards the end but the beginning chapters are well written and thorough. If like Paul Johnson's books then you would enjoy this one.… (mais)

A short, concise history of a man I knew little about. I'm not well-versed on European history in general, so there were a lot of names and places I had to look up just so I was familiar. However, the picture of Napoleon painted here was thorough, giving a glimpse of his childhood, his military career, and his political/imperial career; ending with his exile. This is a great primer for people like me who knew very little of Napoleon but want a broad, unbiased picture.
