One of my favorite things about books are the words that make them up. This book had no dialogue; the only words to appear were in the background, on newspapers, billboards, etc. Still, after "reading" it (in like an hour), I feel like it told a story better than most people do with actual words. The weaving in and out of the character's stories, the art, and the plot were all fantastic. Read this book!

This adaption of the classic work by Franz Kafka was my first encounter with Metamorphosis. I've seen the book thousands of times, of course, but never read it. I could make a wild guess what it was about and was in no hurry to read about a giant insect! However, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to read this adaption. It was definitely a quick read, filled with black and white illustrations. I honestly fill like the illustrations and the lack of color set the perfect tone for this story. While I can't say that I love the story, this adaption did compel me to finally read the book. I think it's a good quick read, but I was left with so many questions.… (mais)

Read the original source text a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it; got me interested in modernist and colonialist literature (though, I guess, worth noting I was a fan of Achebe's work prior to reading HOD and am still an Achebe fan to this day).

There were certain themes the original text provided that seem a bit too thin here--emphasis on the more sonic landscape Marlow encountered in his travel and Kurtz's impact on crowds (for instance) that really drove the point home. I know this version took some interpretive liberties, which I am fine with, but feel like the graphic novel could have easily used another 25-30 pages or so to make certain themes more impactful. Apart from that, the illustrations were quite nice.… (mais)
