Mostly it impresses visually, both adventurous settings and in their magical depiction, and in recognising what's to come. Several characters appear to become types: they are recognisable in other films, but not as the same people; rather, they look the same. The Boiler Man from Spirited Away is the boiler man on the pirate ship here; the General looks like one of the 3 bouncing heads in Spirited Away; Mama Pirate is similar to the witches in Spirited Away; I think there were a few others. A studio Ghibli film and it was enchanting. Pazu's life is changed when Sheeta falls from the sky. Around her neck is a glowing crystal and there are several people who want it, this chase leads them to the legendary castle in the sky of Laputa and there they discover a lot about it. Interesting and heartwarming as always. 3/4 (Good).
It's weird how boring this movie gets, given that it is stuffed with a million cool ideas. ( )
