The characters are well built and realistic, however, there was something missing in romantic scenes, I didn't feel the emotions moving me. I think she should have described the characters more deeply so the reader could identify with them more. I did appreciate that although Sophia is quite young she is not a ninny.
The research is well-incorporated in the story and the metafiction is well presented and tangled.
And I loved the particulars of the dogs and the horses.
And for the more traditional readers, the touch of supernatural is nothing that will put away, it's something believable and with a scientific based so don't get prejudice about it. But if you don't enjoy a political drama with spies and such, it will not be an easy read for you.
I will definitely read more of this author.
It was quite a breath of fresh air and a welcome pleasure. ( )
