Het gaat over een wereld vol doodsbange kippen, opgeblazen konijnen en een heel bange jongen. For fans of Lemony Snickert, Skuldguggery Pleasant, Neil Gaiman and other dark humourous tales for teenagers. A seriously creepy book in parts. Kamil's father disappeared one night walking the family dog in the woods; now every night Kamil walks those same woods until he comes to the disused chicken slaughter factory. Then one night he notices movement and lights in the factory...is it open for business again? There are all sorts of mysteries afoot in the village - a strange fat lady, a horde of chickens f A superb children’s/young adults’ book aimed at approximately an audience of 12 upwards. Having read a proof copy there are some extras due to be in the final product that would prove interesting for many older children, as it is, the story line can be enjoyed and understood by a competent reader of about 12. The story revolves around Kamil, who knows there is something sinister going on in the woods not far from where he lives. The place and time that Kamil lives in, is going through a hard time; food is scarce and a weekly bag is provided by Mister Petri who is the owner of the Squawk Box. In it’s time, the Squawk Box was the poultry farm where many of villagers worked and it seems to be coming back to life but without the poultry. So what exactly is going on? Kamil and his friend Flori begin an investigation into what turns out to be a very gruesome mystery. Flori’s father is a key figure, giving Kamil the courage (without realising so) to explore circumstances in his own family. There is also the school teacher, Miss Milea, who changes suddenly after a visit to the Squawk Box. Finally, there are other fantastically described characters to keep you turning the pages. It is a well written novel that deserves 4.5 stars out of 5. The reason I couldn’t give it 5/5 is simply because it took a little while to get into it and as a young adults novel, it may lose some readers this way. Whilst I wasn’t intrigued by the introduction of this reclusive author, I do feel some younger readers may be. On publication it is well-priced at £6.99 as it really does have you turning the pages after getting a quarter of the way into it. An enjoyable and exciting book and one I can’t wait to share with the children I work with. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

Kamil knows something sinister is going on in the woods. Deep amongst the trees, the old Squawk Box poultry farm is stirring back to life, but it doesn't seem to be processing chickens, and the villagers are too scared to ask questions. Kamil investigates a mystery smelling mankier by the moment. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
