This entire series presents beautifully illustrated (photographic) overviews of the cultural realities of modern day life in the country named in the title. Each volume contains an "author's note" giving an introduction to the country in question, then for each letter, A-Z, there is a brief paragraph describing some aspect of the culture. Fascinating content. Great jumping-off points for further reading and research on the country. Great for seeding the imagination with concrete images of real people, to help make map-studies come alive, and to help inspire travel planning. Nothing at all even remotely violent or dramatic, either emotionally, socially, or physically, so a very safe choice for highly sensitive young readers (like my sensitive just-turned-4-year-old son). Highly recommended. I only wish they had more countries in the series.

Unique and inventive, this young person's introduction to India presents an alphabetical and photographic journey through the vast and vibrant subcontinent, highlighting its rich contrast of landscapes, cultures and customs.

This was a good read to learn about India and what happens in the day of a life of a little girl in a village in India. I learned a bunch of new words and different things they do in India.

Shows us the life of 6-year-old Geeta who lives in a small village "like any other Indian village". Morning worship (Hindu), brushing teeth with a special twig taken from a nearby neem tree, bathing in a bucket, off to school, playing games, evening meal, then a story from the Ramayana before bed.

This is a pictorial overview of India, obviously the merest sampling. The pictures are of course delightful. As a book for children, it is ok; its appeal for adults is quite limited.½

A picture book with a little bit of text. This book shows aspects of life in India from the viewpoint of a young girl. Innocuous.
