Over the course of nine seasons and 100 episodes, for intrepid individuals searched numerous locations to find evidence related to Bigfoot and become one of the top rated shows in the history of Animal Planet. Finding Bigfoot: Everything You Need to Know by Martha Brockenbrough is a tie-in book aimed at young children to provide information related to the subject of an undiscovered North American ape.

This book is geared towards younger readers and fans of the Animal Planet tv series of the same name with the aim to giving information on the mysterious upright walking ape that might be stalking the wilderness of North America. Investigating such questions as “Does Bigfoot Exist?” as well as investigating the evidence supporting that they do, not only in North America but around the world, but also looking into the various hoaxes and misidentifications that many skeptics bring up this book treats it’s target audience with respect and aims to promote critical thinking. For the readers that believe bigfoot exists there is a “how to” guide about bigfooting and how to collect possible evidence of the creature when found. And throughout are eyewitness accounts from the first four seasons of the show with comments from one of the Finding Bigfoot team members.

While roughly 140 pages, this is an oversized book filled with pictures and easy to read text size. Though intended for children, adults will find this informative as its for general audiences of both believers and skeptics. Brockenbrough’s prose is engaging towards a younger audience without being insulting while keeping adults reading as well. The introduction by Finding Bigfoot star Cliff Barackman, a former teacher, starts the book off right with telling how he came to accept the existence of Bigfoot after growing up as a kid enjoying learning about “monsters”.

Finding Bigfoot: Everything You Need to Know is an easy-to-read and informative look into the subject of an undiscovered North American ape whether you’re a child or a child at heart.

This book is exactly as the series says, Animal Bites. There are so many facts in this book that something will draw in any reader. This book describes various animal species family life. It talks about live and egg birth, how long babies stay with their parents, what they eat, where they live, how they travel and more. The photos in this book are amazing. They are so close you feel like you can touch the animals. The special sections on the side that include cool animal facts, simple infographics, and illustrated maps of the Earth and the habitats as well as the short bits on "All Grown Up" are sure to invite discussion and further investigation. They even have bits on "Just like Humans" where they show how human families interact in some of the various topics. The back of the book includes activities, further resources and an extensive Glossary. I love that a portion of the proceeds will benefit Animal Planet's R.O.A.R. (Reach Out. Act. Respond.) project which partners with leading animal organization to make the world a better place for domestic and wild animals.

This book would be a great addition to a school or class library, especially those learning about animal species, habitats, and even families. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

This book is exactly as the series says, Animal Bites. There are so many facts in this book that something is going to draw in any reader. This book describes many aspects of Farm Life. With the majority of people living in cities, this is a great way for kids to learn about farm animals, life on the farm, working farms, showing animals at fairs, petting zoos etcetera. It talks about habitats, adaptations, family life and more. The photos in this book are amazing. They are so close you feel like you can touch the animals. The special sections on the side that include cool animal facts, simple infographics, and illustrated maps of Earth and where various animals live, the "just like me" sections etc. are sure to invite discussion and further investigation. I loved the section on "odd couples" showing different animals that are inseparable but of different species. The back of the book that includes farm activities, further resources and an extensive Glossary. I love that a portion of the proceeds will benefit Animal Planet's R.O.A.R. (Reach Out. Act. These books by Animal Planet are just phenomenal. The photography and snippets of information are just enough to keep children interested. Like the title suggest, these books offer bite-size facts to engage children and keep them interested in animals. Everyone loves any baby animals because they are always so adorable and the photographers photographed some really cute babies for this edition. Even baby opossums are quite adorable hanging from a tree. All kinds of animals are featured including those you would have in your home, in your local woods, or those animals far away in jungles. Some animals babies are born ready to walk and be mostly on their own, while others need their parents for months after their birth. All this is shared in brief "bites" alongside adorable photographs of babies and sometimes their parents.

For children who love animals or like non-fiction books, this soft cover paperback with heavy paper would be a hit for lower elementary through middle-school-aged kids.

Animal Planet Baby Animals by Animal Planet is an adorable book for kids of all ages! (Adults too!) It covers a variety of babies from the animal kingdom doing things baby animals do. The images are amazing, clear, and so fun. Most pages have more than 2 pictures on them. Lots of info is included, little tidbits are added tastefully here and there without being cluttered. Very well organized. Colorful, bright, and informative. The incredible images and great info is a big winner! A must have for the kid that has everything. Thanks NetGalley and the Publisher of this book for allowing me to read this astounding animal treasure!

This is a beautiful, full-color over-sized book filled with pictures, maps, and loads of interesting facts on each page.

The book is divided into eight chapter with one for each continent plus the oceans. Each chapter is further divided into habitats with discussion and photos of the animals that make the region their home. Aside from a short introductory paragraph in each sub-chapter, most of the text for the descriptions of each animal are placed in brightly colored information boxes with a same colored line connecting them to a photo of the animal.

The writing is entertaining and easy to understand. Even children too young to read will enjoy having this read to them as they look at the photos and drawings and find the animals on the map.

Very creative and sure to delight both children and adults.

Third graders were BEGGING me to read from this book last time I subbed in their classroom. This is a book every kid will be fascinated with.

Animal Planet has brought the strangest and most interesting animals to life in this book to show kids how vast the creatures of our planet really are. From Betic Midwife Toad to the Rhombic Egg Eater to the Christmas Frigatebird to the Hickory Horned Devil, I learned about all kinds of animals I never heard of nor do I want to ever see in person.

The photography, of course, is amazing and there is just enough information to teach kids about where they live and why they are either strange, unusual, gross or cool. With some creatures, it gives quite a bit of information and others, like the Jumping Spider, just gives a little tidbit. If you could see the photo, I guarantee it would give you the creeps?

The book is laid out in sections based on the title. When I subbed in third grade, I used reading from this book as a behavior incentive by giving them a few strange animals while waiting to go to lunch. The kids were fascinated and couldn't wait to have me read more. Later in the day after they had worked hard on their assignments, I chose a child to pick a category and then read a random creature from that section. It was a little bit of science and geography wrapped together talking about the creature and discussing where they lived. The kids loved seeing the photos most of all.

This is a great book for any child, but especially those who love science. I'm sure I could use this as an incentive in any elementary classroom. Our own high-school-aged kids even had fun looking through it.

Animal Planet Strange, Unusual, Gross & Cool Animals by Animal Planet & Charles Gingha is full to the brim with pictures of all types of pictures! This book has everything and then some. There is the bizarre, gross, funny, so ugly it's cute, just adorable, I wish-I-could-do-that, and more animals in this book. The images and the tons of fun trivia everywhere makes the book POP with excitement. Not a dull page anywhere. Newly discovered animals, ancient animals, little known animals, animals of the sea, insects even. The gross to the cute. It is all here, if it is strange or cool, you will find it in this book, up close and in your face! Loved it. Thanks NetGalley for suggesting this book! Another great book from the Animal Planet!

Animal Planet and Time Inc. Books have produced a collection of cool (not to mention, strange, unusual, and gross) animal facts sure to delight any kid.

There are more than 200 photographs in this book that is divided into four different focuses: “Galleries” to explore a theme, “Featured Creature” to spotlight particular extraordinary animals, “Creature Collections” with groups of animals to compare and contrast, and “Macroview,” showing tiny details.

The featured animals are just amazing, and include the blobfish, the deep sea octopod, the ghost octopus (just discovered in 2016!), the red-lipped batfish, banded gila monster, and as you can tell by the names, a host of unusual creatures. To me, the most incredible animals are those hiding way below us in the ocean, but the book also includes animals we might hope to see on land (or in some cases, hope not to see….)

I especially love the theme galleries. They include “Fabulous Feet,” “Vanishing Creatures,” “Squirters and Spitters,” “See-Through Creatures,” and my favorite, “Glow-in-the-Dark Creatures.”

On all of these pages, you learn astounding facts about what makes these animals so unusual.

The book includes a glossary, annotated links to find out more, and an index.

I really appreciate that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of books benefits the principal partners of R.O.A.R. (Reach Out. Act. Respond) - Animal Planet’s project to help make the world a better place for animals.

Evaluation: This overview of a fascinating topic is sure to inspire kids to seek out further information. The books from Animal Planet (as well as their television series) prove that learning can be fun.

Animal Planet’s Strange, Unusual, Gross, and Cool Animals by Charles Gingha is nifty collection of some of the wildest critters on our wonderful, wonderful planet. I read this book with my cublings, and we all learned tons of new and fascinating facts. The girls and I loved the little poems at the beginning of each section. The boys, not as much. Haha, except my little poet.

There are myriad pictures to engage young eyes (and adult ones too!). They stole my tablet and read it again with das/uncles, especially to share the dragonish creatures and scorpions/spiders. Jonas keeps scorpions and Drake and Charley love dragons.

Some fun facts inside...

*The Darwin's frog- male holds the baby tadpoles in its vocal sac til they become froglets.

*The kakapo- the heaviest parrot. It does not fly, but is a skilled climber with strong feet. It uses its stubby wings for gliding from tree tops.

*The 2016 discovery of a beautiful jelly in the Mariana Trench.

*The lion-mane jelly has a bell 8 ft in diameter and tentacles up to 100 ft long.

🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻 Highly recommended, especially for kids who are wild about animals and nature. Also as an educational tool for middle-graders.

Animal Planet and Time Inc. Books have produced a fantastic atlas of animals for readers six and up.

There are not only illustrated maps of every continent, but also maps and explanations of global biomes, "the world's major communities, classified according to the predominant vegetation and characterized by adaptations of organisms to that particular environment” according to the textbook Biology by N. A. Campbell, 1996. Biomes include deserts grasslands, and rainforests, for example.

To illustrate what kinds of animals live in the different biomes, this atlas includes full-color photographs of more than 200 animals, along with fun facts about them. A Nile crocodile, for example, can weigh up to 500 pounds. There are fewer than 400 saaima ringed seals left in the world, and they all live in southern Finland, but there are more than 8 million puffins in Iceland. Andean condors have a wingspan of more than 10 feet! The world’s largest rodent is a capybara, which is a favorite at zoos, with many of their admirers not realizing these large pig-like animals are rodents.

The book includes a glossary and index at the back.

There are also occasional text boxes from R.O.A.R. (Reach Out. Act. Respond) - Animal Planet’s project to help make the world a better place for animals. These “ROAR” sidebars mention conservation and rescue efforts relevant to the animals and/or biomes being featured.

You can learn more about ROAR here, and there is a downloadable curriculum guide here.

Evaluation: This overview of a fascinating topic is sure to inspire kids to seek out further information. The books from Animal Planet (as well as their television series) prove that learning can be fun.

This comprehensive atlas covers each of the seven continents as well as the oceans and the animals and species that inhabit them. The book begins with introducing your child to the various biomes in each of the areas. A world map is featured next with animals placed in their homelands.

Each continent is singled out, first showing the type of land (biome) that makes up the continent. The pages follow with amazing photos, some filling the whole page, of all the animals featured. I guarantee there will be animals that you have never heard of before. The European Souslik reminds me of a prairie dog. Who knew there is a Dung Beetle that helps take care of all the dung across the African desert. The Plumed Basilisk can run across the water or slow down and swim. I was also surprised to learn that the Antarctic Midge is the only insect that is native to Antarctica and is a fly that can't....fly.

These are just a few of the many fascinating things to learn in this book. Children will be enthralled by the photos of all the different animals and will enjoy the unique facts about each one.

The only drawback to the book is the size of it. It is quite a large and heavy book, measuring 11 1/2 by 13 inches. It wouldn't fit on most bookshelves unless turned on its side. Younger children would have to lay the book on the floor to look at the pages as it would be too heavy for them to hold. But, these bigger pages do make the photos pop and they are quite amazing. If your child has to do a report on an animal this coming school year, this book would make a great starting point for finding a unique animal to learn about.

The Animal Planet Animal Atlas is filled with gorgeous color photographs of animals on every continent. My four year old loves to sit and just look through the book at all the pictures.

I love how the book is organized - by continent and then biome. This allows children to see which animals live together in the same regions and how animals adapt to different living conditions. It also demonstrates the "food web" (a more accurate term than "food chain") very concretely.

The information given about each animal is short but interesting. My seven year old loved learning how many of certain animals are left in the wild and what is being done to help those animals. This is a great way to find out what animals children would like to learn more about and then find other resources to go more indepth.

In Farm Animals, readers will learn, inter alia, that male geese have blue eyes and females have brown eyes, in case you were wondering how to tell the sexes apart. We learn baby names too: baby bunnies are called kits or kittens, baby goats are called kids, and baby horses - called foals - can walk within an hour after they are born! Alpacas hum to each other and turkeys gobble, a word which is of course an onomatopoeia.

This book has more than just interesting trivia and adorable pictures, because after you get a taste, you will definitely want more. And so it has suggestions for activities, places to visit, websites, and suggested books for further reading. The book also has a glossary and index at the back.

Recommended for ages 4 and over.

Note: Not only is this book fun and beautiful, but a portion of your purchase will benefit the Principal Partners of R.O.A.R. (Reach Out. Act. I received a paperback edition of this book from the publisher through a GoodReads giveaway and the following is my honest opinion.

Parents are always looking for ways to educate their young children about the world around them, and one of these areas concern farm animals. With the myriad of books available on this subject, one can simply lose their minds in trying to find the best one; one which their child could easily understand, one which didn’t have long boring paragraphs which could lose the attention span of its young readers, one which had pictures which would add to their understanding of what they’re reading.

This book, which Animal Planet played a role in producing, I feel is the quintessential book on this subject. The information presented here has been done in a manner so as to entice its young readers to grasp the facts regarding each animal in bite-size tidbits until the entire picture of the animal has been mentally ingested and understood.

While this book is available as a KINDLE, I feel a young child would be best served by reading a physical copy of this book. Remember how you felt each time as a child when you read a real book in your hands, instead of a cold electronic one.

In the end there’s no reason I can this book anything else than 5 STARS.

I'm generally wary of oversize books but this is a really delightful and unique look at biomes that kids will pore over for a long time.

From the beginning, it is explained that this is not your average atlas. Instead of dividing the continents into countries, they are separated into biomes. The introduction also explains the different types of biomes, the travel guides (animals from each continent) and the special information sections - "Surprisingly human" which talks about how animal behavior and "Roar" which addresses ecological concerns.

Asia includes the most variety; rainforest, alpine, desert, grasslands, temperate forest, taiga, and tundra. Each oversized spread talks about unique elements of the biome and features a selection of animals from the area. The continent's chapter ends with a full spread profiling a well-known animal that symbolizes the entire continent, a Sumatran tiger for Asia. Familiar and strange animals are included; African biomes cover dung beetles, lizards, gorillas, and features the Nile crocodile. Europe acknowledges that many people don't think of it as an area for wildlife, but shows that there are still areas with a lot of wildlife, as well as those that have adapted to living with people. Its featured animal is an Old World swallowtail. North America has the most familiar animals, but depending on where readers live they will find something new; especially in the tropical rainforest of Central America. North America's featured animal is a bald eagle. South America is fascinating; it's easy to forget this area is more than rainforest and the book covers the desert, alpine, and grasslands as well and features an anaconda. Of course Australia is always interesting, and, not surprisingly, features a kangaroo. Antarctica has a short section, leaving space for one last biome - marine - which covers both major oceans.

There is a glossary, index, and photo credits included. Meshon's fun cartoons add interest to the photographs and information included and may inspire readers to create their own biome maps. The over-sized book is 16x14 inches but only 96 pages so while it's large, it's not massive.

Verdict: A great addition to your animal section, whether kids gather round it in the library or haul it home. Recommended.

In celebration of Earth Day today, I wanted to share with you some great books from Animal Planet about some of the animals that inhabit our earth. Animal Planet immerses viewers into the lives of animals, through TV and online platforms. They are the go-to resource for kids to learn about their favorite animals.

I loved these kinds of books as a kid. I still love walking through zoos and learning about animals. There are so many fascinating characteristics to learn about each animal and Animal Planet does a great job of teaching these to children without overwhelming them.

The photographs pop on each page and the facts next to the pictures are brief, keeping kids interested in learning more. Nothing is boring and the tidbits of information are unique and fun. I love learning why animals have certain features to help them live in their environment.

Bring an aquarium right into your home or classroom with this book full of amazing photographs. Every time I visit an aquarium, I am in awe of the different colors and shapes that live in the oceans. I've never heard of a Surgeon Fish before, but the facts on the page teach me about its unique characteristics. Rather than just telling me it is nine inches long, it also tells me that it is about the size of a dinner plate...a great way to help a child understand its size.

I bet kids will be shocked to find out what is unique about the male seahorse. It can do something no other male species on earth can do!

There is also a page dedicated to keeping our oceans clean. During a clean up effort in 2015, over 1.7 million beverage containers were collected from shorelines around the world. I think kids will also find the photo of the discarded fishing nets removed from the ocean to be eye-opening. It is a great way to have a conversation with your child about keeping our earth clean and how we can contribute to that in our homes and community.

I can't say enough about how great these books are. I will be pulling these out in the classroom and when I am babysitting our friend's kids. These books will keep kids interested over and over again!

If you don't purchase nonfiction in paperback, read no further. However, I am a bit of an oddball (apparently) in that I do, frequently, purchase nonfiction paperbacks. I do not do this randomly - I have a somewhat complex internal set of metrics for deciding whether or not to purchase titles in paperback or budget-destroying library binding. One of those rules is that I never purchase animal books in paperback. In fact, I've spent the last few months carefully withdrawing all the nonfiction paperbacks I've found hiding in the 590s.

So why did I immediately add all of the, undeniably paperback, Animal Bites series to my order cart?

This is a new series from Animal Planet and I received two titles for review. Ocean Animals and Polar Animals. Each book begins with a guide to use - the book is arranged by colored tabs, jumping back and forth between the different sections. One spread may explore an animal's habitat, like creatures that live in volcanic vents and is marked with the "where they live" tab while another focuses on a specific animal, such as the Siberian husky. There are colorful spreads comparing different types of penguins, and stunning photos of animals in their habitats in the "vista" section. Most spreads include a few sentences in large, bold type with additional facts, information, and fun extras in smaller type. Each book also contains some simple activities, resources (including places to visit, websites, and other Animal Planet books), glossary, index, and photo credits.

The books cost roughly $8 with my library jobber discount and have a sewn paperback binding and thick, glossy pages.

So, why break my rules for these books? First, because unlike many paperbacks they have a thicker spine, so they won't get lost on the shelf. The spine is wide enough to hold the title and is in an eye-catching green. Secondly, because I have realized that my animal section (well, ALL my nonfiction to be brutally honest) is sadly outdated and I simply don't have the funds to replace it all. I'm going to have to compromise a little to get those empty shelves filled and those tattered and dirty books from the 80s withdrawn. Thirdly, because these are exactly the type of books kids love to pore over, especially in the summer. They're full of photos and facts, easy to read, perfect for browsing. In short, these are gateway books to further reading and exploring the world!

Verdict: Break the rules and give these books a chance. Even if they only last one summer, it will be money well-spent. In addition to the two titles here, Wild Animals and Farm Animals are coming out this June.

Animal Planet Animals is a delightful visual and informational book packed with joy that only the Animal Planet could deliver. The images are so clear and entertaining, and there are so many of them! There are many small pieces of information on each of the animal such as size, habitat, food, and something special just about them. Also, how they and human are alike. The book covers such a variety of animals, sea life, insects, or more. Every page is filled with intriguing info and wonderful images. I have looked at this book a few times already and it keeps drawing me back. It is not a small book either. The love of animals they put into this book is obvious, the pictures are worth every penny. The information is written in a fun, natural way and not like a textbook. This book is a pure joy to behold. A great gift for that someone who has everything or who loves animals. Kids would love this book, younger ones would need someone to read to them or they could just enjoy the gorgeous pictures. I received this book from NetGalley for a honest review and it in no way effected my rating or review content.
