I liked this story. Nice people doing nice things and figuring it out as they go along.

I finished this book the other night and failed to realize that there is a Book one. This is not it.
Back to the Basic.

So this story is about Penelope who lives in the prairie all by herself in the 1800s after her husband died. She found and fell in love with Cole who is a time traveler. She basically found him in a state where she nursed him back to health.

I didn’t care too much for Penelope because she just sounded desperately lonely. I want to know more about the time traveler guy because his past sounded bad, yet interesting. Then there was the ending where Cole was once so afraid of someone chasing him and he ended up facing this person without fear... And end up back to where he wanted to be, giving up the one thing that he kept saying will kill him if he's caught with it.

Uh yeah. The feeling was so over-exaggerated haha. Then there’s the Sioux and how Penelope did not understand how to understand the language when she spoke to “Martha” but she could communicate with Martha’s father at the end.

I think I’ll need more convincing by reading the other books in the series.

I really wanted ot rate this higher because I love a plain/unattractive heroine, and there was soooo much set-up for good angst, but everything just moved too, I dunno, smoothly. It sort of drifted from one plot point to the next with little friction or build-up or climax. I mean, when Dave offhandedly mentions that he is looking forward to announcing they're expecting, I scanned every page back to the beginning looking for the part where Mary told him. Talk about anti-climactic! I guess I was just hoping for more angst and drama, where this is just a mild, sweet book. (2.5 stars)… (mais)

This was shaping up to be a four star read, with delicious conflict and angst and ruffled feathers in need of soothing. There were Regency Regina Georges, overheard insults (well, more unintentional dismissals, but still), all kinds of elements I enjoy. There was a passing reference to the heroine being plain, but that idea just vanishes and randomly she is attractive. The not-insignificant conflict just, like, disappears, I guess to make room for the stepfamily subplot? I dunno. Would have liked to see a more satisfying resolution to such a great setup.… (mais)
