But there is so much more to a lifelong alliance than the "honeymoon"-style attraction. And I think Heyer effectively shows that here. I was drawn in to by the Austen-esque tributes but I stayed for the realism and the beautiful tapestry of camaraderie, trust, and respect. So, while it doesn't hold up very well when compared to classics like Jane Eyre, To Kill a Mockingbird, and others, I would give it 5 stars because I think it represents Heyer's personal best.
