This thrilling story revolves around the tragic murder of a girl that has haunted Jonathan Stride for ten years. Michaela Mateo, whom Stride was in love with, was murdered by her husband, Marty, before he killed himself, leaving their daughter, Cat, as an orphan. Stride always felt he had failed Michaela, and now he finds himself able to help Cat, who a ruthless killer is hunting down. As the bodies pile up, Jonathan tries to protect Cat while juggling his relationships with Maggie and Selena. The Cold Nowhere is another engaging story in the series with a gripping and twisty plot that keeps you hooked until the end. I couldn't put this book down.… (mais)

I loved this book! The Burying Place has everything. A missing baby, a psychotic killer, and several romantic entanglements. The suspenseful, eerie descriptions of the lonely rural countryside, the suffocating fog, and the abandoned school! Oh my God! Brian, were you doing research inside a creepy building, or did you make all that up? The dripping water, broken glass, rotting wood, and the smells. It all gave me the creeps. Besides the tremendous descriptive writing, the plot was a mind-blower. I can usually figure out where the author is going at some point, but this one was very twisty and very surprising. My one complaint was Jonathan Stride's macho attitude. Yes, he was having PTSD panic attacks. I've experienced them myself, so I know how debilitating they are, but when you are going through something like that, you run to someone for help. You can't handle that stuff on your own. With that said, I still love this character and this series.… (mais)

This was my first Jason Bourne novel and I must admit that I enjoyed it a lot more than I would have thought. I'm a sucker for traditional espionage and this had it all: handsome men and beautiful women, nefarious plots, exotic destinations and brilliant enemies. There was a tendency to rely on clichés, and some of the scenes were a bit too cinematographic for my taste (it reads weird), but overall I did have fun. I might even be convinced to pick up another in the series.

Lt Jon Strike is forced to confront his past when someone arrives writing the story of his sister-in-law's murder and uncovers new facts. Good use of the Lake Superior, Duluth setting.
